How much does a great DJ cost?
Cost depends on a bunch of different things. Where is your event located? How many hours do you want Ryan to play music? What day of the week are you planning on? For weddings and larger events, how many setups will we need? (ceremony venue and separate reception venue, etc.) Do you want party lighting for the dance floor? All of these options factor into the total cost of your event. Ryan has options for every budget, so contact us now and we’ll provide you with a free, no-obligation quote ASAP. Discounted rates are offered at non-peak times (like Sundays and during the winter months).
What kind of music does Ryan play?
The music that YOU want to hear! Ryan has a huge music library with over 150,000 songs, so we can play top 40, country, rock and roll, alternative, oldies, classic hits, hip hop, rap… and the list goes on. Ryan can also accommodate specific requests before and during your event. We have the capability to find, download and play music wirelessly, so the answer is always “Yes, we have it!” Want to bring an iPod and plug it in? Go for it! You can have as much or as little control over the playlist as you want.
For school dances and other events upon request, Ryan’s playlist is 100% clean and obscenity-free.
Does Ryan take requests?
Absolutely, but that decision is totally up to you. If you want your guests to be able to pick the music, Ryan will gladly work requests into the playlist that you have selected for the event. If you want to have complete control over what is played, Ryan will politely explain to your guests that music selections have already been made.
Can Ryan also be an Emcee for my event?
Yes! Ryan can make announcements during your event, serve as a master of ceremonies at your wedding reception, and even help you plan the flow of your event ahead of time. We can make announcements paired with entry music, plan musical interludes and features during your program, and more.
Can you play music during the cocktail hour or during dinner?
Yes. We have an extensive library of light background music, classical, jazz, and other traditional choices to provide background entertainment at certain points during your wedding or event program.
What kind of equipment does Ryan use? Is it reliable?
Absolutely. We use new, industry standard speakers, mixers and computers to deliver the best sound and a great experience for you and your guests. Wireless and corded microphones can also be used for your event. And just in case something happens, Ryan always has backup equipment on site, so the party doesn’t have to stop if something breaks.
Does Ryan have a light show for the dance floor?
Of course! We have several lighting options for different kinds of events and venues. For wedding receptions and parties, we recommend our standard party lighting package to light up the dance floor. For bigger events like school dances, we have a full light show!
When should we reserve a DJ?
As soon as possible! When you confirm the date of your event, it’s a good idea to book a DJ before you do anything else. Ryan typically books events anywhere from 6-12 months in advance, but it’s never too late (or early) to call! Fridays and Saturdays during peak spring and summer months fill up fast, so don’t wait.
What is the booking process? Can we meet before we agree on hiring Ryan?
The booking process is easy, and Ryan is always happy to meet and talk about all your options before we agree on a contract. Ryan is happy to provide unlimited consultations, phone calls, and planning sessions before the big day to make sure nothing is left to chance. As soon as you know you want Ryan on board, contact us to reserve the date!
How much time does it take to set up at the event?
In general, Ryan will arrive at least 90 minutes before start time to make sure everything is set up and working properly. We need access to the venue 60 minutes ahead of time at the absolute minimum, (90 minutes minimum for weddings), so keep that in mind if you’re renting a hall or reception area.
How far will Ryan travel for my event?
We can travel to locations anywhere in New England. Ryan is based in Portland, Maine.
What does Ryan need from us on the day of the event?
All we need is a banquet table, access to at least one grounded power outlet (two is optimal), and if your event is outside, some sort of cover from weather (a tent, garage, roof, etc.) That’s it!
Do we pay extra for travel, set up time, and break down time?
Absolutely not. Our agreed upon price includes travel, setting up your event, and everything else.
Can Ryan stay longer if the party isn’t over at the agreed upon time?
Sure! Generally, Ryan can stay as long as you need him to, at an additional hourly rate. The best way to avoid going over time is to plan the right amount of time from the outset. We recommend four hours for most parties and dances, and 5-6 hours for wedding receptions or events with more than 200 people. If the event still runs over, overtime can be purchased on an hourly basis at the beginning of each hour. The overtime rate will be outlined in our agreement.
What will Ryan wear to my event?
Whatever you want him to! Unless you tell us otherwise, dress for parties is typically casual, corporate and community events are business casual, and weddings are business or full formal. We want to fit in with your event.
Do we have to tip the DJ?
Not at all. Some guests and clients will include a 10-20% gratuity for an excellent job, but it is not an expected part of our agreement.
How do we pay?
We’ll explain payment options when you contact us to book your date. Generally, 50% of the total event cost (or $300, whichever is greater) is due when you reserve Ryan as your DJ, and serves as a non-refundable deposit. The remainder of the cost is paid the day of your event. Ryan accepts checks and digital payment.
Is there any fine print?
Other than our guarantee that you’ll have a great time, not really! Just one thing to keep in mind: Because DJs book so far in the future, all retainers are nonrefundable. Retainers ensure that Ryan is locked into your event and guarantees his appearance as your DJ that day. If you cancel your event within 180 days, a cancellation fee of 50% of the remaining balance will apply. If you cancel your event within 90 days, a cancellation fee of 100% of the remaining balance will apply.
